Support affordability from home
How did you hear about The Connecticut Project? Was it because someone knocked on your door, called you, or you saw something in the mail? It’s important to bring people into the movement for affordability, but we can’t do that without talking to people.
The Connecticut Project’s local action teams are out rain, snow, and shine to spread to build the movement for affordability in towns across our state. But there are other ways to get involved if knocking on doors isn’t the best fit for you.
If canvassing isn’t right for you, phone banks and virtual phone banks are another way to connect with other people who want to make our state more affordable. Join us to get started today.
What is a virtual phone bank?
A virtual phone bank is when we come together on Zoom to call people to tell them about the work we’re doing, how they can get involved, and why they need to take action. You can join a virtual phone bank from your home or anywhere where you have access to reliable internet.
The goal is to get others excited to take action to make Connecticut more affordable for working class people.
What happens during a virtual phone bank?
First, the group of virtual phone bankers meet together on Zoom. During that Zoom, we’ll talk about how to make calls and go over a script to use as a guideline for what to say.
Next, you’ll make calls. During those calls, you’ll have a list of phone numbers to dial. When someone picks up the phone, you’ll talk to them about ways they can get involved in making Connecticut more affordable. If someone doesn’t pick up, you might leave a voicemail. You’ll work your way through a list of numbers for a set amount of time.
During our calls, we remain on Zoom together, but we mute ourselves when we’re making calls. You’ll be able to ask any questions if you need help. We’re all in this together, even if we’re not in the same room.
After we’re done calling, we’ll talk about what we learned, what worked, how to work through any challenges, and celebrate each other.
We’ll let you know what to do every step of the way. If it’s your first time, you’ll learn how to make the calls and any technology you’ll need. We’ll practice what to say together. You’ll be given a list of people to call, and we’ll make the calls at the same time.
How long will it take?
Expect to spend two and a half hours on the phone. If it’s your first time, there will be a 30-minute training session before. If you want extra time, there will be a separate training session a day before the event.
What do I need?
You will need to be connected to reliable internet. You will need at least two devices – one to make calls on, and the second to be on Zoom with. For Zoom, you can use a phone, a laptop, a tablet, or any other device that connects to the internet.
Join us in the movement for a better Connecticut
Phone banks give us the opportunity to reach people we might not be able to talk to otherwise. They’re an important tool to get people excited for change.
