Have you joined your local Connecticut Project community action team yet?

Community action teams bring neighbors together to fight back against our state’s cost of living crisis. In the last few years, you’ve probably juggled the rising cost of food, utilities, rent, and healthcare. Budgets are having to stretch further than ever before – and many hardworking people are no longer able to make ends meet and are being forced out of their communities, neighborhoods, and the state.

A single person can’t fix our state’s affordability crisis on their own. That’s why community action teams are powerful tools to bring people together for action, advocacy, and change.

What happens when you join a community action team

Joining your community action team means you will give yourself the tools to advocate for a better Connecticut.

The first step is a discussion with an organizer. This may have happened over a Zoom call or in person. Your organizer for your town and local area will talk to you about how you want to get involved and what you’re interested in.

When you join The Connecticut Project, you are actively getting involved in making our state more affordable. This can include joining us for a lobby day at the capitol, knocking on doors to talk to your community, inviting your neighbors to a meeting at your house, signing a petition, sharing your story, or making calls during a phone bank event. There are also community outreach days, community canvases where you will knock on doors, and fun events.

Our work never stops. We have events throughout the year – we don’t stop after the legislative session ends or when it starts snowing. Affordability is an ongoing crisis, and so is our fight for change.

Your community action team empowers you

Your voice and your ideas matter. Joining your local team provides you with the tools to take action with your neighbors.

"We talk to the people. We are for the people, wherever they are and however they are. It is on us to listen to and amplify the voices of the people. We are The Connecticut Project."

-Yandris, New Britain

In your community action team, you and your neighbors get to picture what an affordable Connecticut looks like, and work together – and with other people like you around the state – to make that happen.  We’re stronger together. The more people who speak out, the less elected officials and other leaders can ignore the issue.

In our action teams, we are also learning together. You don’t need to be an expert or an experienced advocate – the teams are places where people can learn about how to be strong advocates, together.

You don’t need to be an expert. Your expertise is your lived experience, and your power is in speaking out with others.

You don’t need a team in your area to get involved

We have action teams throughout the state, with more on the way. You can still join a team even if you don’t live in that area. We have members who are a part of the New Britain action team, for example, who have been priced out of the city and want to get involved to make it more affordable.

We are a statewide organization that continues to grow. We will not turn you away if you want to get involved. When one city wins, we are closer to creating a more affordable Connecticut.
