Affirming Our Values Ahead of Inauguration
The Connecticut Project sent the following message to our grantee partners on January 16, 2025.
Ahead of the transition to a new presidential administration, we wanted to reach out to you, our partners, to affirm our support and express our solidarity in the work that you are undertaking. We know that there are threats, right now and in the future, to nonprofit organizations engaged in social justice efforts, particularly around reproductive health, immigrants’ rights, DEI, racial justice, and LGBTQIA+ rights. We recognize the uncertainty and challenges that loom for your organizations, your staff, and the people so many of us serve and work alongside.
Please know: we will continue to support groups working toward a more just and equitable Connecticut, including those who are most under threat. We intend to honor the financial commitments we have made, regardless of whether the new administration threatens or revokes organizations’ nonprofit designations. We will honor existing philanthropic commitments and explore new ones as new threats and needs arise. We are also exploring additional ways to support our partners in these evolving times, be it through self-care and wellness grants, access to legal counsel, special trainings and information sharing on issues such as data protection, capacity building supports, or other areas in which we can be most helpful. We will work closely with other philanthropic groups in these endeavors. And we will continue our advocacy work in the state legislature and beyond.
Most importantly, we want to stress that you are not alone. We are committed to building spaces where you are safe, seen, valued, and able to connect as a community. We will be standing alongside you in whatever ways are most helpful to your work. We will continue our regular conversations and engagements with you and encourage you to reach out to us as new and unexpected needs or issues arise for your organization.
Thank you for your work, your resilience, and your partnership. Your efforts are important now more than ever, and we are proud and honored to support this community of partners working for a Connecticut where everyone has the freedom to thrive.
